How can we measure progress on management capabilities?

One division invested significant time and resources in implementing management techniques to improve product delivery.  However, the division leaders recognized that teams were at risk of regressing into old, less effective habits if they didn’t measure and methodically improve their lean and agile management capabilities.

In partnership with its AMPology consultants, leadership leveraged maturity rubrics to assess and measure its management system methods, mindsets, and business outcomes. Leaders at all levels observed management practices through the perspective of the rubric and identified management opportunities to enable even better business outcomes.

At the division level, leaders learned to measure the management system’s effectiveness and to create a roadmap for future progress. Leadership identified which system elements needed attention and how they impacted their business goals. At a team level, each leader had a new awareness of his/her team’s lean capabilities. This prompted every leader to set improvement targets to maximize business outcomes further.
